Our first Trunk or Treat

What a fun time this was!  There was a time in college where I called this tailgating....but if you fill a bowl full of candy and stick it in the trunk of your car, all of a sudden socializing in a parking lot at night has a whole new feel.  Madeleine's dance studio held this Trunk or Treat party and I may be biased but I think the real treat was our performance of Thriller starring MJ himself!  The girls went from car to car begging for candy they didn't need.  I decorated my trunk to look like a haunted library complete with Lucy and her book of Poetry.  I was zombified (though I feel I could have done a better job on my deathly look if I had more time), and the only thing missing was our resident resident (Jason in his customary pair of scrubs), who had to scrub in for a late surgery I guess and couldn't join in on the family fun.  Candie helped ease my pain with some mommy drinks in a special halloween party cup and thank goodness for Lori who calmed my baby vampire (and we all know how dangerous those are), while I lived out one of my dreams dancing original Thriller choreography to an actual audience!

The Thriller Dance!  Check out those orbs int he photo....clearly MJ himself was with us!

In Regards to Worrying.....

I found this on another blog that I follow and I loved it so much I had to share.

"There is so much in our head that never materializes."

It's all well and good that I tell you this.....would someone remind me from time to time?

Some Glitterific Halloween Decor

I added some glitz to my Halloween decor this year and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.  The first picture is my newest creation. I painted this today and I think it might benefit from some glitter and sparkle so I'll be heading to Michael's with my 40% off coupon.  I love how R is for Raven AND Rupe!

A creepy, crawly vignette w/ apothecary jars filled with mice, skulls and spiders, oh my!

I bought a foam pumpkin on sale at Michaels and the lettering is done w/ scrapbooking stickers since I don't have a steady enough hand to paint.  I love these stickers because they are pre-embellished with crystals.  The ribbon is black with shiny dots and I just glued it to the pumpkins.  The candle idea I stole from my sister.  I jeweled BOO with black crystals (also from Michaels).  The candlesticks have been gathering dust in a corner of my bedroom, finally they get the attention they deserve on my dining room table.

Ahh my chandelier, all gussied up with a black feather boa.  It may verge on gaudy and I know my sister-in-law wanted to ask me what time the hookers left.....hey, at least I didn't swag a pair of fishnet stockings.

White lights and fall leaves are dripping from the sky.  This was put up for the pixie hollow party but I like it so much I think it will stay through Thanksgiving.

Another angle of my creepy, crawly vignette.  Pay no attention to the man in the mirror w/ the camera.

My bird cage, complete with a crow, sitting atop a skull, pecking away at it.  My neighbor gave me this birdcage and it has been a wonderful addition to my decor.  Each season it finds itself filled with something new.  The candlelabra was passed on to me by my fellow Francophile friend Sandi, and yes that is a Gold Canyon Candle burning.  My new and surprisingly favorite scent, Eggnog.  Who would have thought but my friend Dawn Marie had it burning in her house and it smelled like autumn and holiday time.  Dawn Marie sells these candles...visit www.mygc.com/dawnmariescandles

This is Lucy and as you can see, she is a fan of POEtry.  You can't see from the picture but Lucy is glitterific too.  She's wearing my rhinestone bangles.  It's always important to sparkle....even in her state.

Once upon a midnight dreary, the raven Lenore sat atop our lamp and guarded the candy corn.  She didn't do a very good job at it because the 6 year old and her little red-headed partner-in-crime saw to it that the candy corn vanished within days.  Now Lenore perches 'neath the clock looking fabulous with her sparkling tiara.

Once again a trip to Michaels got me another foam pumpkin and some more black jewels.  What's a girl to do when she should be cleaning house or grading papers?  'Tis much more fun to bejewel pumpkins.

The silhouette"chandelier" in my bathroom is courtesy of Martha Stewart.  I love how it glitters!

A vintage hatbox lends a feather boa...and a hand.  The moth eaten window treatments add a nice touch with a backdrop of spooky purple lights.

My glittery skull with crystal eyes, lounges on a deathbed of spanish moss.  Ole!

Lily's 4th Birthday

Lily is OBSESSED with Tinkerbell and Fairies, so it was easy to come up with a party theme this year. As usual, we tried to incorporate Halloween so the kids can get some extra wear out of their costumes, and, well....'tis the season. Here are some pictures of the decorations...

Once you step through the gates of Pixie Hollow, your first stop is the Pixie Powder Stop. Must get fairy sparkly if you plan to be a Pixie. The view through the garden gate

After applying your pixie dust...you must stop by Fairy Alterations....

The Cake!

Opa made the the cake stand out of spray foam and Grammy got some fairies to sit inside. I would love to say I made the cake but WalMart made my life complete on Friday when I found a chocolate cake with shaved curls and bark chocolate. Must have been some real Pixie magic at work. I covered the table in burlap and Michael's had fall leaf garlands on sale for $1.99!!! Some mini pumpkins in orange and white and we have a cake table!

Cameron's 5th Birthday

My niece Cameron....or Cami as she is now asking to be called, turned 5 on October 15th and she decided to celebrate Cinderella Style. What princess party wouldn't be complete w/o a royal banner (compliments of my mother-in-law), a royal dress, a tiara, and a real live princess! We went out the day before to do some princess dress shopping. Believe it or not, the girls have outgrown most of their "formal" attire and what still fits them has been worn to shreds and I fear my sister would have them dusting cobwebs and mopping floors instead of dancing at the ball.

Lily opted for her new sparkly tinkerbell costume.....fairies can go to balls too.....and Madeleine found this Princess and the Frog shirt. I told her she could wear it w/ her pettiskirt and a crown - she could be kind of a hip princess. Her reply:

"I think that's a good idea. I'm older and the other girls will be wearing baby princess dresses. Mine will be for OLDER girls!" Such a teenager and yet only 6 years old.

This was our gift to Cameron....I painted it and now Lily and Madeleine want one too!
